FABRICA DESIGNS TEACHERS WITHOUT BORDERS' NEW LOGO
Jul 10, 2012

Teachers Without Borders (TWB), a Seattle-based non-profit organization, asked Fabrica, Benetton Group Media and Communication Research Center, to design a new logo that more accurately represents its mission and vision.

The logo encapsulates the key values of the organization and its unique approach to supporting teachers, worldwide. It uses an image of an abstract globe to highlight the teaching profession – the largest in the world at close to 60 million worldwide – as integral in ensuring the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants. The globe also emphasizes the organization’s approach: As transmitters of knowledge and community leaders, teachers are powerful catalysts for lasting global change. Furthermore, the globe refers to the support network that TWB provides to educators worldwide in the form of resources, training, tools, and connections with colleagues, in order to assist them in fulfilling their important role in their schools and communities. The globe also represents international reach, cooperation, and networking – values central to the organization’s programs and mission. The letters in the new logo, located closely to each other, refer to connectedness for communication and exchange of professional knowledge and experience.

Dr. Fred Mednick, TWB’s Founder, believes that the new logo reflects the organization’s commitment to removing borders: “Our
new logo shows a connected and networked world, without borders, and both touched and surrounded by teachers. It is about the intimacy of connection – on a global scale. The emphasis on the “o” reflects our commitment to open education and removing barriers. We’re thrilled with what Fabrica has produced for us.”

The logo has already been implemented on the organization’s website at http://www.teacherswithoutborders.org

FABRICA PRESENTS VANISH
Jul 09, 2012

The new audiovisual project launched today with a worldwide preview on Internet

Fabrica, July 9th, 2012. Natural elements such as water, wood and ice meet and blend with materials fashioned by man, including porcelain and metal, to create a mixture of shapes and sculptures that dance in total interconnectivity with the music.

This is VANISH, the latest audiovisual project produced by FABRICA, Benetton Group's communication research centre, the fruit of a collaboration between the filmmaker/programmer Daniel Schwarz and musician Davide Cairo.

VANISH is a fascinating journey through surreal landscapes, in which music and video have been composed in parallel, influencing each other in their development. Common materials, such as the abovementioned ice, wood, porcelain, metal, and even balsamic vinegar, simultaneously gave rise to sounds and imagery. The music drew inspiration from the sounds made by these elements, and through a huge series of algorithms, transformed them into a range of geometric representations that then formed the basis for the audio-reactive graphics projections.
As the project's young creators explain, “after meeting at Fabrica and seeing each other's work, the decision to start working together came naturally, and it worked perfectly right from the start, because we both had the same artistic vision of the project, and we could inspire each other and spur each other on”.

Daniel Schwarz (Germany, 1987) studied Information Technology and Media at the Stuttgart Media University in Germany, and at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Brazil. His project AXIOM.3, an interactive dance performance, won the ARTE Creative Student prize. Since 2011, Daniel has been a resident in Fabrica's Interactive department, where he has produced the project PIECE OF PAPER, an experimental short film that has already won the video contest announced by Amon Tobin, and published in the artist's official box set. His work ranges from interactive installations to performances and videos, often combining digital with analog, bringing computational and visual processes out of the screen.

Davide Cairo (Italy, 1987) studied Science and Tecnology of Musical Communication at Milan University, and attained the certificate of Mixing & Mastering at the Garnish School of Sound, London. In early 2012 he won the Music Scholarship at Fabrica, where he fulfills his role as a musician and sound designer, with a particular eye to musical experimentation, technology and interdisciplinary work.
